DON’T SALT THE STEAK

tips-figure

Ok. This tip has nothing to do with lowering your sodium intake. It actually goes back to a hiring tactic used by Henry Ford.

Before the American industrialist would hire anyone for an important position he would have lunch with them. If the prospective employee salted their food before trying it, they wouldn’t get the job.

Why did Ford employ such a tactic?

Because he concluded that people who assumed their food needed salt before they tried it wouldn’t be receptive to testing new ideas.

As dentists it’s critical that we not only test new ideas and new employees, but also new treatment methods and prosthetics. Of course, a dentist can’t extract his or her own teeth. And in most cases we won’t be wearing one of his own implants.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t indirectly test our products.

Reach out to your former patients and test – everything.

  • Ask them how they enjoyed their in-office experience
  • Ask them which treatment planning methodologies worked best and why
  • And ask them which marketing strategies were they most receptive to

The bottom line: don’t assume something needs changing – until it does. Hold the salt until after you try the meat.
